Hey, my friend!
Substack rolled out an AI detector this week, and a lot of creators got really nervous about it. 😅
I've had clients message me worried it would flag their work.
I've watched writers panic about scores and wonder if their audience will suddenly turn on them.
And I get it.
When a platform introduces a new signal, it feels like the rules are shifting under your feet.
But here's what I want you to hear: this is the best news of the year for anyone who ACTUALLY has something valuable to say on Substack.
The point of the detector isn't to punish people who use AI. It's to push back on slop. 🚯
And slop isn't the same thing as thoughtful work that happens to use AI tools in the process.
The way I use AI (and the way we teach our clients to use it) is entirely different.
Your ideas, your point of view, your lived experience... those come from you.
AI can sharpen how you deliver them, but it can't replace the person behind them.
And if you've built a real body of work, no detector score is going to change how your readers feel about it.
They either connect with what you're saying or they don't.
Now here's the part that actually matters for you: If you're an experienced coach, consultant, or expert whose Substack isn't converting the way you'd expect, an AI detector is not your real problem.
Your bigger problem is much older.
Expertise trains you to write like an authority. Comprehensive, careful, hedged. You cover every angle so you don't get anything wrong, explain the nuance, qualify the claim.
All of this makes you sound credible, competent, and... forgettable. 🫠
That's because the voice reads close to the voice AI defaults to. Because both are trying to be safe.
The writers who actually convert on Substack sound like a specific person with a specific point of view: Sharp, opinionated, human.
These are people willing to say the thing most experts in their field are afraid to voice.
And here's why the AI news actually helps you: as slop gets filtered out, the reward for a distinctive human voice goes up.
The right readers find you faster.
Your work gets restacked and recommended more.
Discovery is getting better for people who have something real to say.
But visibility on its own doesn't build a business.
You still need the conversion mechanics to turn a curious reader into a paid subscriber, and the retention mechanics to keep them there long enough to see the value you deliver.
Without those, more traffic just means more people bouncing off your publication and never coming back.
This is exactly what we do inside the Substack Accelerator.
We help coaches, consultants, authors, and experts translate real expertise into a publication that reads like them, converts the right readers into paid subscribers, and becomes a predictable income stream and business asset.
