Hey, my friend! We've replied to dozens of questions about mini-courses lately, but one of them stands out because it came up so often: "What's the #1 thing I need to get right to ensure my mini-course will be successful and profitable?" The truth is, it's not the sales page (although that's definitely important)... It's not the launch emails (even though those are also important)... It's the course topic. The most important step in creating a profitable mini-course is to choose a winning topic. When you create a course people truly want and need, you've already done 50% of the selling. My co-founder Jari Roomer has learned this early on and built over 10 mini-courses in the productivity niche over the past few years. One of his most successful courses is called The Procrastination Antidote and has generated over $60,000 in sales: The course was a success because it solved a pressing, painful problem (procrastination) that most of his readers struggled with and desperately wanted to get rid of. This product is a great example of a true "pain killer." It's short (only 2 hours of video content), specific, and incredibly valuable to the target audience. If you nail down your course topic like this, selling becomes effortless because your target audience WANTS to buy your product. Most course creators, however, make one crucial mistake that costs them a lot of money. They build a course they're excited about without checking if anyone actually wants to buy it. And the last thing you want to do is create a course that nobody wants to buy. (We've been there—it sucks.) That's why we help our Mini-Course Accelerator students validate their course ideas through questions like:

There are simple strategies to launch your course even if you don't have a large online audience of your own (yet). When you don't have an audience, simply change the questions to:

Hey Reader, When my team and I created the Write • Build • Scale publication on Substack last year, we didn't know exactly what role Substack could play in our business. Is it a newsletter platform? Hey Reader, We're celebrating our 10-month anniversary on Substack this month, and if I'm completely honest, these past few months have had a major impact on our business. But we didn't start the Write • Build • Scale publication with big expectations. In fact, we didn't know what to expect at all. There was so much noise and misinformation about the platform that it was hard to see how exactly we could leverage it for ourselves. Here we are, 10 months later, with 10k subscribers, an...
