Write Better, Build Smarter & Scale Faster
Welcome to the Write • Build • Scale Sunday Digest, where we help you write better, build your audience, and scale your income through quick tips and actionable resources.
Last week, we talked about why monetization can feel so damn hard, and how a mindset shift can unlock the confidence to actually get paid for your work.
This week, we're looking at actionable ways to start monetizing your ideas, knowledge, and expertise.
How Should You Start Monetizing?
If you're ready to earn from your content, the first step is to choose your path.
And there are two typical ways for (new) creators to monetize their work:
Path 1: The High-Ticket Start
If you’re already great at what you do and confident in your ability to help people, you can start monetizing with a higher-priced coaching or consulting offer.
You’ll work with a few clients at a premium price, help them achieve a clear result, and build income (and testimonials) fast—without needing a huge audience or complicated funnel.
Path 2: The Low-Ticket Launch
If you’re newer to your topic or not ready to charge premium prices yet, you can start monetizing with a small, focused offer like a paid workshop, PDF guide, or workbook. These offers can be priced as low as $7.
You’ll gain experience, boost your confidence, and prove your concept before going bigger.
🔍 But Which One’s Better?
Well, the answer is: it depends.
There is no ultimate right or wrong here. Both approaches have pros and cons, and the right decision will depend on your personal skills and preferences.
While low-ticket offers can help you build confidence while also being great for testing and experimenting, they require a much larger audience to actually make a substantial amount of money.
For example, to match a single $1,000 coaching sale, you'd need to sell 100 copies of a $10 product.
Both are possible and viable strategies, but it makes sense to properly assess what the right path for you personally could look like.
How to Turn Your Substack into Multiple Streams of Income
We recently hosted a live workshop all about diversifying your monetization strategy—even if you’re not running paid subscriptions yet.
The workshop is packed with real examples, creative ideas, and easy wins.

Profitable Playbooks for Writers
Our friend Rodney Daut recently published an ebook where real coaches and creators share how they grew their audience and income.
You can grab your own free copy—featuring three strategies from the Write • Build • Scale team:
- How creators with tiny audiences can use high-ticket coaching to generate 5-figure months
- Why short, outcome-specific mini-courses convert better and build more loyalty than mega-courses
- How community-first education outperforms traditional courses for engagement and transformation
You can find all of them inside the ebook.
Reflect & Recalibrate
If you're currently stuck with monetization, ask yourself the following questions:
- What’s one offer I could create that solves a clear problem I’ve already helped people with?
- Am I trying to monetize too many things at once? What can I pause or postpone?
- What price point would feel good for me right now—exciting, but not overwhelming?
And if you really don't know what you want to create yet and are looking for a sweet spot between a low-ticket offer and an expensive coaching program, building a mini-course might be the right path for you.
Mini-courses are quick to create, solve one specific problem, deliver fast results, and typically sell for $27–$100—making them a great low-risk entry point.
We're helping you build and sell your own mini-course in less than 14 days with Mini-Course Accelerator.
