Let me clarify

Hey Reader,

Last week, I shared my 2024 business review with you, and over the weekend, I got a bunch of replies related to one of the key lessons I shared.

In the review, I mention that connections, collaborations, and community have been our key focus areas in 2024 (and will continue to be in 2025.)

Over the past few years, I've collaborated with hundreds of creators in various ways:

  • We cross-promoted content
  • I interviewed many of them
  • I got interviewed
  • We've run affiliate collaborations
  • And so much more

But one opportunity has been exceptionally rewarding in 2024: Recommendations.

My email list on Kit has grown by 11,000 subscribers thanks to the Creator Network.

And on Substack, we've already gained 2,000 subscribers through recommendations by other writers (even though we only joined the platform in July):

If done correctly, recommendations can be an incredible growth engine to reach new audiences.

But how do you do it correctly?!

Well, good news: My friends at Kit recorded an entire YouTube video using my Welcome Sequence as an example - it's a step-by-step breakdown of how I welcome and treat new subscribers who join my list through recommendations:

The key lesson is to know that referred subscribers are COLD subscribers.

This means you have to treat them differently - no matter if they join your universe through Kit's Creator Network, Substack's Recommendations engine, or any other program.

If you keep this in mind, you can leverage free recommendations as a great growth opportunity.

If not, you might see a decline in open and click rates on your newsletter because your list will be full of subscribers who don't care much about your work (yet).

Let's grow together 🚀

Since recommendations have been such an important growth channel for us, we'll continue to use them in 2025.

And we want to team up with YOU!

We're looking for new partners to cross-recommend, and if your work is a fit for our audience, we'd love to recommend your publication and newsletter as well!

There are 2 opportunities:

  • If you're on Substack, recommend the Write • Build • Scale publication and reply to this email with your Substack profile link so we can recommend you back!
  • And if you're using Kit's Creator Network, recommend us there, and we'll recommend you back as well!

Either way, reply to this email and let me know that you'd like to collaborate through recommendations.

I'm always excited to connect with like-minded creators and would love to learn more about your work! 🧡

Big love from my screen to yours,
Sinem

Hey Reader, I see it all the time: Creators who have just started to publish their work but are already comparing themselves to people who are 100 steps ahead. And I get it. It’s easy to look at viral posts by someone who’s been writing online for years and wonder why your content isn’t getting the same traction. But let me zoom out and give you some perspective here: I've been writing online since 2018. This has been my "full-time job" since 2020. I’ve spent thousands of hours refining my...

Hey Reader, I'm writing this email full of fresh energy because we've been enjoying a lot of sunshine here in Vienna over the past week. It already feels like spring - perfect for hikes, long walks, and slow moments: But there's one more thing I like to do when spring is around the corner.. I repot my plants! So I spent Sunday morning giving many of my babies new soil, a larger pot, and a cleansing shower. I don't know much about plants, but I love taking care of them to make sure they have...
