Hey Reader, Yesterday, I told you about the four main pillars of Substack and how each of them can help YOU achieve your writing goals in 2025. Today, we're diving into one of my favorite Substack features: Notes! Think of Substack Notes as short, snackable content. My own Notes feed is a mix of:
You can think of Notes as your testing ground, but the truth is that they're actually a powerful vehicle for GROWING your audience. This is particularly interesting for new writers who feel overwhelmed by the idea of writing long posts or newsletters right away. If you're looking for an easy way to start writing, start by publishing Notes. This will allow you to get the ball rolling, connect with like-minded people, gain your first readers, and build confidence. Starting by publishing Notes removes the friction because your Notes can literally consist of one or two sentences: And if you've already been writing online for a while, Notes is the perfect way to repurpose your existing work and start your Substack journey with an advantage. When I started to publish Notes, I repurposed many of my Medium posts. I took snippets from my articles and turned them into short, punchy Notes. Wanna dive deeper into how to best use Substack Notes? My co-founder Jari published an in-depth guide to help you get the most out of Substack's Notes feature this year.

7 years ago, I left a comment on a Dutch guy's blog post. Last week, he slept on my couch. I know, I know - this could be the start of a pretty dramatic story.
